IAFM brings together doctors, nutritionists and health coaches who practise Functional Medicine in India, an approach that reads the body as one connected system and looks past the symptom to the biology underneath. We exist to raise the standard of that practice through research, education and training.
Who we are
IAFM, the Indian Association of Functional Medicine, is a non profit professional society representing Functional Medicine doctors, nutritionists and health coaches practising in India. Our members work in hospitals, private clinics and independent practices, and share a common clinical question: not only what the diagnosis is, but why it developed in this particular patient.
The association exists to give that work an academic and professional structure, a place for shared standards, continuing education, peer scrutiny and collaboration between clinicians who would otherwise practise in isolation.

Our mission
The approach
Functional Medicine is a systems biology approach to clinical care. Rather than treating a symptom as the whole of the problem, it traces the symptom back through the systems that produced it, and treats the person in whom those systems sit.
Where the consultation begins, and where conventional workup, diagnosis and safety netting remain essential.
Immune, metabolic, endocrine, digestive and detoxification pathways read as one connected network rather than separate specialties.
Genetics, nutrition, sleep, physical activity, stress, environmental exposures and the interactions between them, assessed in the context of one patient's history.
Care built for that patient's biology and circumstances, delivered alongside, not instead of, appropriate conventional treatment.
Outcomes measured over years: function restored, risk reduced, and the patient equipped to sustain both.
Functional Medicine is practised as part of, not as a replacement for, conventional medical care. IAFM does not endorse claims of cure, and encourages members to communicate the limits of current evidence as clearly as its findings.
Our footprint
The association has convened the national Functional Medicine community every year since 2021, and its founding clinicians continue to teach, publish and practise.

The people behind IAFM
IAFM was co founded by physicians who were already practising Functional Medicine in India and wanted a professional body to hold the standard. They still run clinics, still see patients, and still teach.
